You Are Beautiful!!! I keep hearing how the experience of having portraits made has empowered and changed the way women feel about themselves and it reminds me each time how important my job is. I want every woman to have that feeling. When you see yourself in an image that is hanging on your wall or in a beautiful album laying on your coffee table or by your bedside it reminds you every day that “You Are Beautiful.” No matter your age, size, color, or your personal issues, Exist In Photos for you and for your loved ones.
Three creative minds coming together to create beautiful imagery; Branjae Jackson Music, Melanie Patterson @ ColourBlind Salon, and myself. Branjae brought some of her mother’s authentic garments and jewelry. We worked to put it all together then Branjae did her thing. We had such fun this day…freedom to be creative.
Planning ahead for the Christmas holiday Christy wanted to surprise her man with a very special gift. We had a very full day with lots of different looks to fill her album. The flower was a last minute decision on my part, not knowing if she would be up for an adventure, but she was It was a challenge getting the poinsettia to stay on her head even with the ribbon wrapped around her head, so I propped the stem on a stool behind her and she held steady as I slowly backed away to shoot.

Today is my 49th birthday! A year ago my sister wrote me a poem and now, a year later I re-read and my eyes filled with tears again as I read the words my sister had for me, she knows me so well. This was the most cherished gift I have ever been given. Thank you and I love you sister.
Happy Birthday Lana
Oct. 2nd, 2013
The time has come, the day is here, so lift a glass, we all must cheer.
Another year has come and gone the date is set and the party is on.
She may be getting older there’s no way we can tell. That photo shop she uses works really well.
All kidding aside now is the time to unburden, she just stopped talking so I can get a word in.
She’s wonderful and funny and really weird on occasion, when you spend time with her its like a craziness invasion.
She’ll make you laugh and lift you up just to see you smile, everyone should have someone like her for a while.
We see the world through her beautiful eyes as her camera shows us what only her lens spies.
With her camera she makes love and happiness and hope. A little moment saved in time to help all of us cope.
When things change and they will for no one can stop it. She gives us that moment to save in our pocket.
I’ve been apart from her often and I’ve really missed her, this beautiful creature that I’ve always called Sister.
So if you chance to meet her don’t pass by to fast for a more beautiful soul you may never walk past.
Happy birthday dear sister today is the date only for a year will you remain 48.
I love you I love you and I love you again. I said it first that means I win!!!!

I love photographing women in their 40′s and 50′s, the confidence they have lightens up a room. I love talking to them because they are full of wisdom and great stories. When I was younger I would look at women 50+ and would hope to carry myself with confidence and be comfortable with where my life’s journey had taken me. I loved the laugh lines and couldn’t wait to have them myself. And, believe it or not, I looked forward to the day I had the curves of my mom, this would mean I was a woman. Now, as a woman’s portrait photographer I look at them with even more gratitude and beauty as I near 50 myself (that’s crazy to think of, as I feel much younger….most of the time, LOL).
A smile, a movement, a gesture can be signs of confidence and show we love who we are, we are unique, special and beautiful.
These ladies had a portrait party at the studio and I was not only the photographer, but they took me in as one of them and included me in their celebration.
I had a blast designing this photoshoot for Mary. After brainstorming with Ashlee Bivins and Heather Valentine (Primp Salon in Broken Arrow) http://www.primptulsa.com we decided we wanted to do something fun and different and we wanted 50-shades of pink and soft skin tones to be the focus. Ashlee free-handed the heart and Heather used pink hair paint for the hair bow.
The set and wardrobe were all things I had in the studio with the exception of the balloons. I wanted a soft, ethereal, feminine feel to the images and tulle, lace, gloves, an old tattered chair, and flowers are were a must for this type of feel.
The jones family wanted unique family portraits that represented who they are and they wanted them with their family airstream. So, we dolled up the girls in custom designed tulle skirts (by Raegan Medeiros), had their hair done by ColourBlind Solon, their makeup done by Hannah Demuth, and had a video produced by Tiana Beringer. I had a BLAST!
The day I spent with the beautiful young lady and her mom was exciting, so many different looks; backgrounds, dresses, and jewelry. I look over at Mary’s mom and she had tears in her eyes as she watched her baby girl in front of the camera and it made me choke up, but there were lots of giggles and laughter too.
Thank you Tammy and Mary Joy! You are two beautiful ladies!

Beauty, sophistication, elegance, smiles, gracefulness come to my mind when I think of the essence of a woman. I saw this when I was photographing Joanna. I am so very grateful that she chose to spend her 40th birthday at Voulez Vous’ studio so I could capture and document a milestone in her life.

“To commemorate my 40th birthday I decided to work with Lana at Voulez Vous to take some fun pictures after seeing some of her work she did for a friend. She coached me along prior to the session so I would get everything I wanted out of it & end up with images that far exceeded my expectations. Lana listened to my ideas, inspired me to be creative and made me comfortable at the shoot. It was a fabulous way to spend my actual birthday being pampered like a super model & playing dress up in my own favorite clothes and working in her extensive costume/accessory closet. These pictures have become a special gift for my husband, my parents and future keepsakes for my children.”
The beauty of a woman when she is pregnant reminds me of flowers in bloom. They are beautiful as a bud and like a flower in bloom she becomes more beautiful than before. This is the third time I have photographed this beautiful woman over the years and I have gotten to know her and the things that make her feel beautiful. I knew she loved flowers and all the wonderful colors they come in. It seemed perfect to wrap her in cheese cloth and lay her in a bed of flowers (inspired by my most favorite artist, Kirsty Mitchell). I wish I had counted how many flowers I had in all those bags, but I was working very quickly so my mommy-to-be wouldn’t pass out on me. The green gown was a purchase I made in Dallas at a vintage shop and the headpiece I picked up at Michaels and just stuck the flowers in the twigs.
Twelve years ago I started photographing pregnant women. This was my favorite part of photography … over families, weddings, children, and documentaries. I enjoyed the peace and softness of the moment, sharing the feeling with these ladies as they started down a new journey of motherhood and making them feel beautiful.
“I Loved You From The Start”
I loved you from the very start…
You stole my breath, embraced my heart.
Our life together has just begun,
You’re part of me, my little one.
As mother with child, each day I knew
My mind would be filled with thoughts of you.
I’m daydreaming of the things we’ll share,
Like late-night bottles and teddy bears.
Like first steps and skinned knees,
Like bedtime stories and ABC’s.
I’m thinking of things you’ll want to know,
Like how birds fly and flowers grow.
I’ve thought of lessons I’ll need to share,
Like standing tall and playing fair.
When I first see your precious face,
I’ll pray your life be touched with grace.
I’ll thank the angels from above,
And promise you unending love.
Each night I’ll lay you down to sleep,
I’ll gently kiss your head and cheek.
I’ll count your little fingers and toes,
I’ll memorize your eyes and nose.
I will linger at your nursery door,
Awed each day that I love you more.
Through misty eyes, I’ll dim the light,
And whisper, “I love you” every night.
As mother with child our journey’s begun,
My heart’s yours forever, little one.
I loved you from the very start…
You stole my breath, embraced my heart.
Thank you to my hair and makeup artists and to my summer intern, Tiana, for all your help and support. Thank you Victoria for giving me the freedom to photograph you as I saw you, a flower in bloom.
